A friend of mine made a simple comment in Relief Society, oh, about fifteen years ago. I have never forgotten it: Do not suppress a good thought. Let me tell you what that little phrase has meant to me ever since.
If you have a kind thought for anyone, do it. If you even think of someone, respond, because they might need some encouragement at that very moment. If you allow yourself quiet moments, the Holy Ghost will be able to reach you to direct you.
I don’t know about you, but meeting new people can be a little scary and/or uncomfortable. Instead of totally avoiding that responsibility, I think of how they might feel. Everyone likes to be thought of, and remembered, whether they like to admit it or not. By acting on the good thought of introducing yourself to someone or visiting someone, it automatically becomes a worthwhile venture. No one has ever snubbed me when I smile or say hi.
I’ve had visits that haven’t gone terribly well; I’ve even felt the need to visit someone and they end up not even being home. I count these actions as practice ones to overcome the fear and intimidation I normally feel.
You just never know when something as insignificant as a passing brain wave can be the means of great blessings. We can’t really afford to miss those. Yes, they’re scary. Yes, they make us feel uncomfortable. But yes, this is the work of the Lord. Oh, to be used as an instrument of the Lord.
That was a nice insight… I have had the thought to do something and acted on it, but then the phone isn’t answered or the person isn’t home and I think that was dunb… I will call it practice from now on:)
I love this idea!
