Almost twenty years ago, a regular woman, like you and me, was called as the Young Women’s President in her stake. Her name was Rose Ann Gunther. After considering the needs of “her girls”, she decided that under her watch, they were going to focus on the church mission.
Every girl in the stake learned the missionary discussions and practiced on their families. Opportunities came about for some to teach non-member relatives.
Arrangements were made to extract information from microfilms of parish records and do the baptisms for those names. Each girl participated in the family history portion, as well as standing in as proxy in the temple.
With the support and blessing of the Stake President, all of the budget, for parties, camps, refreshment expenses, planned for her first year as YW President, was used instead to buy supplies to fill humanitarian needs. Ever after, the stake budget included a humanitarian fund. It was Rose Ann and her committee that first developed the kits we have all put together at the Humanitarian Center: Hygiene, School, Newborn kits. This stake continues to meet every Wednesday all day long; packing, sewing, painting, gathering, etc.
I would love to learn more about other LDS woman, sharing their expereinces, family, and giving one another advice. I feel this will be a wonderful web site to join

I completely agree with you. My Gallery of RS Communities category is filled with what other sisters have sent me about what they are doing in their lives and wards. I would love for you to send me some of your experiences and some things sisters in your ward are accomplishing.
My dear friend, Carolyn, retired from teaching and decided she wanted to make a difference in the world. She shared her idea with a few of us and we were eager to help. Three years ago, in February 2009, we held our first meeting. We decided to call our group, We CAN (We Care And Nurture). We meet once formally each month and work on a service project, and many of us also work on the project throughout the month as well. We also “collect” items each month for a local or international humanitarian organization. We have done many different things in the last three years. Sometimes our service is focused on someone in our own community, sometimes we are doing things for someone on another continent. We feel great joy in our service and have developed deep and lasting friendships with the lovely ladies that we serve with. In the scope of world wide needs, we have only put a drop in the bucket, but every drop of extra love sent out to the world eventually will be felt by someone, somewhere.
