Did you know you are going to have to sing a song when you get to the pearly gates, in order to get in? Don’t worry, though. The words are in the scriptures, in your testimony, in your life lived, and in your love of the Savior.
You don’t even need to worry about whether you can sing or not. The mercy of the Lord will carry you through. One important thing to know is this song, if recognized on a daily basis, will strengthen you and bring excitement of the gospel, into your life. Once you start letting this song flow through you, you will want to live the gospel constantly, cheerfully, and committedly.
As you look up these scriptures, you will come to feel the joy of the New Song. Please keep it ringing in your ear:
D&C 84: 99-102 We will sing when we recognize ALL gifts given to us
D&C 128: 23 The entire earth will join in song
Psalm 24: 7-10 Others have created music for us to sing our praises by
2 Nephi 4:27-30 Let song help us walk through the darkness
Rev. 7: 9-17 All loud voices are singing voices, and all tears will be wiped away
Alma 29:1 Heavenly Shouting= singing, thunder, thanksgiving, preaching, and beseeching
D&C 128: 22 Let this be our anthem, for He has snatched us out of prison
Ether 6:9 Sing praises, thanking and praising the Lord all the day long
Ezra 3:10-11 Don’t ever pass up a chance to sing in the temple
Alma 5:26 Your song to the Lord is a love song
D&C 133:56-57 We will sing the song of the Lamb, day and night forever
Reading these scriptures will bring you out of any slump you may be in. Continue searching for more inspiring verses creating your very own New Song. Let the praises fill your soul. Share them with family, friends, and neighbors. Your enthusiasm for life will infect those who see you.
Actually I like the idea of making a “joyful noise” (Psalm 100) Even I can manage that. LOL
The new handbook now leaves out the 5 minute Music period during the Relief Society meeting. My wife was called to be the music director and enjoyed teaching new hymns, researching and reporting on how they came to be in our hymn books, teaching the Sisters some of the Primary Hymns so they could use them in their homes, etc etc. She has recieved many coments from the Relief Societ Sisters who are now quite dissapointed of the removal of this music period from the meeting. Would anyone out there understand the rational behind this new policy? Thanks.
It’s true, they don’t mention music time specifically, but I wouldn’t cut out music time just yet. This is my suggestion:
Read everything on http://www.lds.org, under Relief Society, with the idea of bringing music to the meeting. We all know the fastest way to bring the spirit is through music. As a presidency, be sensitive to the best ways to bring music into your meetings. As a music director, don’t just wave your arm to the music, do all in your power, through suggestion and willingness, to bring the spirit through music.
Think outside the box. Offer to teach a six week (or whatever) course on music skills, or music appreciation. Start a Singing Sisters choir and sing for Relief Society, Sacrament Meeting, or ward parties. Help the teachers come up with musical numbers to set the mood for their lessons.
Your wife sounds like she is doing a great job with her calling. Don’t Stop!
While the 5 min music is no longer in the handbook. At the General Relief Society Training meeting held in SLC last month, Sis. Beck stated that they had to write the handbook for the “whole” church. There are some parts of the church that don’t have pianos or organs. She indicated that if the presidency feels that the music adds to the meetings, then follow the spirit. But that is was no longer required, since it doesn’t fit with the needs of all the units of the church world wide.
I really like looking through an article that will make people
think. Also, many thanks for allowing for me to comment!
