We’ve been told to proudly hang our belief on the walls of our homes. This framed piece of personal art makes me happy every time I walk into my room. It does it’s job of reminding me who I am and what is important to me.

I love how Helaman teaches his sons, Lehi and Nephi.

 

And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must

build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation, whereon if men build they cannot fall.” (Helaman 5:12)

I love that he says, ‘a sure foundation’. I also love how sure, or anchored, I feel when I am living the commandments.

While serving on my mission, all the sisters would get together for a sisters conference.  At one of these conferences, my mission president’s wife created an activity where we put together our own collages of the gospel principles we studied and taught each and every day.  We cut up pictures, quotes, and scriptures from lesson pamphlets and pass-along cards and pasted them, making a visual representation of what we felt was the foundation of our testimonies. While all the other sisters ditched their collages as soon as they could, I kept mine throughout my mission. I even brought it home with me and still have it today. I’ve made quite a few renovations over the years, but the foundations of my testimony are still represented.

These questions are listed to help you build a foundation for your own collage (if you choose to make one) or, more importantly, your own personal testimony. Harold B. Lee has said,

The testimony you have today will not be your testimony tomorrow. Your testimony is either going to grow and grow until it becomes as the brightness of the sun, or it is going to diminish to nothing, depending on what you do about it.

I’ve made a few missionary collages since my mission. I hang the most recent one on the wall of my bedroom. It’s changed a little in style and design, maybe a little in emphasis, but I’ve come to see for myself that my foundation has stayed strong and sure, deeper even. Each time I look at it, I am reminded of what is most important to me. And looking at it helps me to know why I live the gospel, how I live the gospel, and how I can teach and love the people around me, so they can find their ‘sure foundation’.
