Call Us Relief Society Women

When President Nelson requested that we discontinue the use of “LDS” as a label of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, my original site LDS Women of God was immediately changed to Latter-day Saint Women of God.

As predicted, my SEO suffered. I realized I was not loving how long my website name looked on the page. (I already thought ldswomenofgod.com was a long name!) So, after taking some needed time to think things through (and hey, I’m a woman, and therefore, change is my middle name), I have really changed things up in possibly an even worse SEO move. But I intend to stick with it.

The official name of my site is now: Relief Society Women (reliefsocietywomen.com).

Who knew that this URL name was still available after all these years!! This is the very topic I am most interested in blogging about.

I began blogging over ten years ago. My original objective was to “understand the history, purpose, and destiny of the Relief Society.” This remains my objective. Still available on my site are scores of posts about the history of this great organization.

In 2008, there was hardly anything available online about our history. I was visiting the Church History Library regularly to find interesting things to share and I posted daily for the first five years. Around that same time, Sis. Beck began talking about the history, and the church was beginning to make documents available online. The most exciting document to be made available was the Female Relief Society of Nauvoo Minute Book, which can actually be viewed here and here.

(If you have not heard of this document, this is what Joseph Smith called the Constitution of our Relief Society. This is where it all started. If you are looking for the purpose of the Relief Society, this was the original. Since then, it has gone through a few revisions, recently explained here.)

Today, and going forward, my interest lies in the destiny of our Relief Society. This involves knowing our great history and literally performing our purpose. It is my understanding, and firm belief, that female members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as members of the Relief Society, are to work a miracle in this world before the Second Coming.

Worldly women will look upon us as distinct and different. Instead of wallowing in perceived unfulfillment, we sisters need to take Relief Society into our very souls and be this distinct and different organization where active righteousness is the wind that carries us throughout the world and people know us by the healing created in our wake.

How will this be fulfilled?

  • Only by gaining a deep understanding and testimony of the word of the Lord.
  • Only by actively protecting our own families and communities.
  • Only by truly loving our God and our neighbors.
  • Only by gathering our ancestors and recognizing that they are watching and waiting for us.
  • Only by actively applying the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ on a daily basis.
  • Only by using Relief Society as an official resource to act on goodness and as a community of likeminded do-gooders.

As members of the largest organized group of women on the earth, we must use the strength of Relief Society in our everyday lives, not just an occasional Sabbath hour. There is much responsibility that sits on our shoulders, sisters. The prophet has called us, and the Lord is depending on us. This is what I will continue blogging about on this website. Join with me, all you dear and wonderful Relief Society women, and help in gathering Israel and making ready for the Lord.
