This is a General Conference Odyssey post for the Sunday morning session of the October 2008 General Conference.
Living in the South, we are surrounded by God fearing people who are very Christian, yet cast their eyes down on faux Christian Mormons. It makes it hard to carry on a civil religious conversation without being reminded we believe in a “different Jesus,” or the “wrong Jesus.”
Elder Hales talks about having Christian Courage. What is the price of our discipleship? To argue and get into a raging fight over truth about the Savior? To passively accept what the Christian world wants to shove down our throats?
What is the correct action to take?
According to Elder Hales, Jesus Christ acted differently in all instances of personal attack. I find that very interesting. There is no set rule, yet there is only one rule. That of fearlessly following the Spirit.
So, when Elder Uchtdorf talks about sharing the gospel in normal and natural ways, he’s really saying to follow the Spirit. Be willing to speak up, but let the words and actions come to us by way of the Holy Ghost.
May we have faith to share the gospel with love. May we not worry so much about offending others. May we hold onto our faith, and be the standard of righteousness that people are afraid to admit they want and need. May we be fearlessly following the Spirit.
